the day had not broken this morning when the procession ofarrivingcominauderies was renewed at an early hour bands were playing and commandenes were marching and the history of the forenoon fore-noon has been a repetition of the night ona much more ext nsive scale At the union depot the tracks are crowded with extra trains and no sooner is one emptied than another takes it place Along the wharves on the river front a similar scene of activity is witnessed many commanderies from along the river having chartered steamers which will be used as combined hotel and headquarters during the week The calls on local and visiting headquarters The work decorating the buildings for the occasion was only fairly begun this norning and thousands of workmen are ei gaged in the task Preparations for the illumination which begins tonight to-night are completed and the apparatus has been tested and found in perfect working order assuring a dssplay far in advance of anything previously at mpted in this city Other arrange n ents lor the work of the encampment are perfected and nothing remains but to receive the Knights and get them established in their temporary quarters In this latter respect the triennial committee is entitled to great praise for the excellent manner in which the arrangements have been made for housing and feeding the mul titude It is an utter impossibility at the present tune to give an accurate estimate es-timate of the Knights already on the ground as individuals and in many instances in-stances commanderifs are slow IK registering regis-tering at hotels and reporting at headquarters head-quarters while hundreds are quartered with friends or in sleeping cars and steamers Full martial and cornet bands are already in attendance and aro heard on every hand
