Show WAGES OF SIN Grismer Davis and the Others n t Last EveningJ I r4 f r lo t i I Si 4 I f i rThe popularity of the present engagement engage-ment at the Salt Lake Theatre was newly attested by another good house last evening which though not so jammed as that which itnessed Called Back was nevertheless of large proportions propor-tions The falling off was naturally due to the fact that Wages of Sin had been seen here before while the other play was entirely new to thelocal stage and Very popular by reputation V The GrismerDavis Company V for some reason appeared generally to better advantage in Called Back than they did last evening With two or three exceptions their presentation of Wages of Sin did not equal that of the Maubury Oerton troupe several months ago Nevertheless it was strongly presented and appreciated ap-preciated S S The characters Ruth Kooc J Miss Davis George Rand J > y Mr Gri mer and Juliana Bloggs by Miss OConnor were those portrayed with greatest fidelity in our opinion Mr Edmunds is too much the comedian for aYiUaiu like Stephen Marler but he did some fair acting despite his aifitIvan I I tagesMrs Bloggs was well done but fell short of the original portrv Ir as we remember it Mr Webster who made such a fine Iacan the mghc be I fore had no chance in the palit of S Wentworth Barbara Dal was only passably well played and the others filled in acceptably The heaviest scen was where Rum is arrested for a thief and hurls ho curse of a heartbroken mother atSitr guilty wretch of a husband The ap plause was deafening as the curtain tell and the splendid acting of Miss Davis won her a recall She was also I brought before the curtain after the fourth act after another strong scene In factMiss Davis bore off the honors of the evening she is a talented actress and would be a credit to any company that travels 5 5 Public anticipation is alive for tc days matinee when Called Back will be repeated and tonights performance be tho military drama The Yeteraij which closes the companys engare meat |
