Show THAT SLNDEB = Our esteemed morning contempo raryunder hid That Slander puts into print a highly sensational scandal that has been widely circulated cir-culated within the past ten days affecting the moral character of a prominent official We have no objection to the Tribune spreading the story as much as it pleases but the HERALD does object to being brought into the nasty business Our contemporary says leThe silly slander was first put in public circulation circu-lation by the SALT LAKE HERALD That assertion is simply emphatically emphatic-ally and plainly a falsehood and we believe the writer knew It to bean be-an untruth when he penned it The HERALD not only did not start the rculation of the nasty story but it has persistently refused to help it along in any way Though the scandal has been for days in every bodys mouth the first public circulation circu-lation in print that it has re ceived is in the Tribune which publication only fans the flame and makes more difficult the effor to suppress what pretty nearly all have regarded as a malicious slander slan-der While by no manner of means an admirer of the victim of this too widely told tale the HERALD has too much selfrespect to resort to the despicable means suggested fcr injuring the character of one for whom it ought not to be expected ex-pected to entertain anything but supreme contempt And right here it may also be appropriately suggested I gested that the HERALD can be expected ex-pected have little respect for a newspaper that will try to hush even a malicious scandal by wilfully wil-fully lying The subject of this story that all are talking about if he has any desire de-sire to quiet wagging tonguesought to commence operations by injecting inject-ing some sense into the head of his editorial friend whose unwise not to say libelous publication has merely given new life to something that would have died out in a few days at most If it is desirable that this matter should go far and wide then the proper course to pursue will be to have the Tribune publish another lying article or two ou the subject |
