Show AN APPEAL I Bear ye one anothers burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ The Womans Home Missionary Society of the Congregational Church desire to rail the attention of the people to the work they are trying to ao and if the work commends com-mends itself as good we earnestly request from then assistance and cooneration Unlike the settlement of all the other western territories territo-ries the immigration to ours has been from the poorest classes both of our own and foreign Nations and in addition to this there has been a predominance of women in that immigration The natural result has followed that a very large number of women and girls have to selfsupporting Many of these girls are now eagerly seeking an opportunity to study but in order that they may do so some way has to be pi ovided by which they can be selfsupnorting and have help on their schoolbills You can judge somewhat of the need from the fact that one school alone has had to turn away more than twenty girls who asked for domestic do-mestic service and a chance to study The Home Missionary Sc ciety are trying to help this class of girls and we need FirstOffers of homes where girls can work morning and evening for their board Schools all close at halfpast two and such girls as these can be of great assistance in any household The homesiunder our present servant girl system are not so blissfully perfect but that many people lock back with longing to those simple happy homes in which he best men and women of our nation na-tion were reared where the girls of the family did the work and still found time to go to chool SecondWe want lou to aptak kiudjjhelpful words to girls in this city and the surrounding towns nud encourage th Im to come forwardand make similar applications Third We need money to pay school bills The higher schools of our city have promised t help both with free scholarships and reduced rates of tuition but it is still not enough To such of you as may look with approval on this work we would say that we realize in how many ways money is needed at this happy Christmas time but any contributions contribu-tions which you may feel able or willing to intk to this work need not be paid brfoie April 1st 18S3 In order that we may approximate something near the amount on which we can rely to meet our expenses ex-penses we earnestly request you to send us early in the new year a note stating the amount you are willing to give when you will pay it and to which school you wish it to be paid viz Salt Lake Academy Congregational Collegiate Ins ti tu te Presbyterian St Marks High School Episcopalian Deseret University Uni-versity Mormon Rocky Mountain Seminary Methodist St Marys Academy Catholic There are some friends of education educa-tion who object to religious schools to them we would say that though the Salt Lake Academy and Deseret University are under the control of the denominations named no theology theol-ogy is taught in them That branch of study is carried in their respective respec-tive Sunday Schools at which attendance at-tendance is option Contributions ot 50 c ats and upwards are requested reques-ted ana may be sent to Miss Luella Miles treasurer care of Kimball Lawrence Salt Lake City Utah Offers of homes and applications for homes may be sent to Miss Georgia feaow president care of Judge Z Snow Salt Lake City Utah Applications for education may be left at any of the schools named or sent to Miss Mina Daft secretary care of Walker Cros Salt Lake City Utah Persons desiring de-siring any further information can send to Miss Jennie Carney corresponding corres-ponding secretary care of Salt Lake Academy Salt Lake City Utah There will be a course of lectures in aid of this fund the first of which will be given by Prof L E Holden probably during the coming week The time will be hereafter announced an-nounced Eastern and western exchanges please copy |
