Show CITY COUNCIL I Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday evening July 25th 1882 Mayor Jennings presiding A petition was submitted from Wm McLachlan in behalf of Martha Mar-tha D Perkins representing that the corporation of salt Lake City had used and enjoyed the benefit for the past fifteen years of fifteen square rods of ground located on lot 6 block 82 plat A Salt Lake City survey for which the corporation corpora-tion had never compensated petitioner peti-tioner She therefore asks that reasonable rea-sonable compensation be made her for the use of said land for the period named Referred to the committee com-mittee on claims A petition was submitted by George Tall and fortythree others for a bridge suitable for loaded wagons across City Creek at the intersection of North Temple Tem-ple and Sixth West streets The petitioners represented that the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railway Companys grade and track througn said ixth West street had rendered the former crossing unfit for loaded teams Referred to the committee on streets and alleys A petition was presented signed by N Groesbeck and ten others all more or less interested asking that Mr John Jelich be granted permission to keep and maintain a confectionery and fruit stand in front of the main entrance to the Wasatch building on East Temple street said stand to occupy five or six feet frontage and to be located across the water ditch flowing in front of the building The petitioners petition-ers stated that it was their belief that the erection and maintenance of this stand would in no way interfere in-terfere with public traffic upon the walk adjacent and would prove an obstruction to no one The petition was accompanied with an application for license from John elicit to transact business as merchant mer-chant Referred to the committee on license Alderman Raleigh made a verbal petition in behalf of A J Pendle ton for permission to occupy a portion por-tion of the street in front of his blacksmith shop on Second South street whereon to place building material for a period of thirty days Granted under the usual restrictions restric-tions The committee on water works to whom was referreed the petition ofF of-F H Hyde and twelve others residents resi-dents of North Temple street representing rep-resenting that since the water of the canal had been turned into City Creek those waters flowing past their doors had become so foul d as to be unfit for household purposes and asking in consequence thereof that the water mains be extended a distance of two blocks west from East Temple street down said North Temple street reported that they had examined ex-amined into the matter and would recommend that the city mains be laid two blocks as petitioned for on the usus1 terms viz that petitioners petition-ers pay threefourths the cost of making said extension the amount so paid to be returned in water rates as usual Adopted The committee on finance to whom was referred the statement of expenditures upon the Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal for May reported that they found the same I correct and recommended its acceptance accep-tance and the pproval of said expenditure ex-penditure viz for the monti 11 21163 Adopted Adjourned for one week |
