| Show I Supt Thatcher Resigned A dispatch published elsewhere this morning states that George W Thatcher Esq superintendent of the Utah and Northern has resigned re-signed and that W B Doddridge will assume the I management ol that road hereafter together with the superintende cy several other branch roads of the Union Pacific Mr Doddridge has long and favorably favor-ably been known in the west and since Mr G I hatcher has deemed it best to resign no appointment could be more acceptable to the people who have dealings with or who are interested in the road It is a question ques-tion however if any person can immediately im-mediately fill the place which Mr Thatcher occupied in the esteem not only of the employees of the road but of those universally who had business with the institution institu-tion The place that Mr Thatcher vacates has been held by him for very many years The Utah and Northern has grown and developed into the longest narrow guage road in the world under his management manage-ment He directed its course when it was yet in its infancy and since it passed into the possession of the Union Pacific and has been extended ex-tended by that corporation he has shown himself able in every particular par-ticular to manage and direct the rapidly increasing business A resident resi-dent for a great many years in the north and identified with the people peo-ple of that sectioll lIe understood them they knew him and the relations rela-tions were always harmonious The fact that he still retained the sup ermtendeucy reconciled the good people of Cache Valley to the purchase pur-chase by the U P of a road which had been constructed by poor honest hardworking people under un-der hardships and numerous personal sacrzfices However its extension ha < been a material benefit bene-fit to Cache Valley a benefit which even now is in its infancy The Union Pacific is unfortunate in losing the services of so able a superintendent and these who have dealings with the road will regret that a gentleman of Mr Thatchers uniform courtesy consideration and ability has disconnected himself from an institution with which be has been so long and so favorably identified |
