Show Its True Character I SALT LAKE Dec 7 1882 Editors Herald The onslaught of the Tribune on Secretary Teller is calculated to open the eyes of the people of this territory as to the true character of that sheet For years its mendacity has been obtrusively conspicious When speaking of any government official or any prominent person in the community who had too much independence or self respect to kneel I at the shrine of that paper and endorse en-dorse all its vagaries and give countenance to its many slanders of persons far above it in all that makes man respected it could find nothing but mean inuendoes and downright insults to heap upon him So in the case of Secretary Teller The Tribune does not pretend to base its charges on facts and present pres-ent these facts but it conveniently believes all it insinuatesbelieves that the secretary is guilty of about every abomination to be found in the catalogue ot guilty practices and even downright crimes What the Tribune does not believe about anybody who has incurred its displeasure dis-pleasure it would be pretty hard to guess The little coterie of disappointed dis-appointed cranks who preside over its columns and so lugubriously ventilate their belief in the corrupt practices of better men than themselves them-selves take great delight in that sort of thing knowing full well that any attempt to mulct them in damages for defamation of character charac-ter would be useless |
