Show CITY COUNCIL Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday evening December 27th 1SS1 Mayor Little presiding The committee on claims to whom was referred the quarterly report of the supervisor of streets reported that they found the same correct and the expenditures properly made They therefore returned the report for approvaland recommended that the sum of 289496 be appropriated to cancel the expenditure to November Novem-ber 30th 1881 Adopted The committee on irrigation to whom was referred the quarterly report of the watermaster submitted submit-ted their report stating that they had examined the accounts and found them correct and recom meHded that 820030 be appropriated to balance the watermasters account ac-count Adopted The committee on public grounds to whom was referred the petition of Andrew Case asking a lease of the Tenth Ward Square for the ensuing en-suing year reported recommending that the petitioner be given a lease oil the same terms as formerly and with the proviso that the lessee keep the fence in repair and fertilize the land as much as possible Adopted The bill for an ordinance prohibiting prohibit-ing the use of motors in connection with the water works came up as unfinished business and was laid over for two weeks In view of the great amount of drunkenness among the youth of the city on Monday last the day generally gener-ally observed as Christmas caused by liquor saloons being allowed to be kept open on motion it was decided de-cided to be the sense of the Council that on next Monday the day to be observed as New Years the Mayor of the city issue a proclamation in accordance with the law on the subject sub-ject requiring all liquor saloons to be closed the entire day On motion the city attorney was instructed to draft a bill for an ordinance or-dinance licensing and regulating the playing of billiards and report at the next sitting of the council Adjourned for one week |
