Show HORRIBLE ACCIDENT A Man Frightfully Mangled by a Blast About 2 oclock on Friday afternoon after-noon a frightful accident occurred at Jones quarry a short distance north of the Warm Springs A man named Thos White was working in the quarry and had put two blasts in a hole One of the blasts went off and he either thinking the other had failed or that both had gone off together returned to the spot When within about three feet of the place the second blast went off Other workmen hearing the report rushed to the place and found White insensible bleeding > and frightfully lacerated He was brought to this city taken to the Sisters Hospital and Dr J M Benedict called in The man was found to be in a terrible condition His left hand had almost been blown away and it was found necessary to take it off at the wrist The left eye was blown out and the socket cut and bruised the righteye is so badly burned that it will forever be sightless his forehead was crushed in a gash was cut in the left side of the throat just under the chin so that when he drinks the water runs out and a piece of lime rock about half as large again as a walnut and elongated in shape crashed into the left side of the jaw breaking it and cut through into the mouth The rock remained in the place tightly until forced out He is very gritty but it is very doubtf if he can ever recover |
