Show The Pest Honse I Elsewhere this morning is a brief communication from a citizen in which he complains of the actin of the City Council in ordering that a pest house be located near the city Park The action or the city fathers fath-ers in this respect is perhaps as wise a step as they have taken for years For a long time Mayor Jennings Jen-nings has been in search of a place where a pest house could be erected and his search proved almot unavailing un-availing The only place that could be found was a ten acre lot which is near Liberty Park This ten acres is situated at the southeast corner of the 100 acres which constitutes consti-tutes Liberty Park It was purchased pur-chased by the city at the same time as the other and is really a part of the Park though about six or eight rods away a lane running between it and the Park proper A large portion of this tenacre lot is springy 1 ground and is a source whence a stream of water continually flows into the Park It is the best place that can be thought of for a pest house being as far from habitations as any place that can be found within reasonable or useful distance dis-tance It Is nonsense to suppose that any place can be determined upon which will not be subject to complaint from some quarters Moreover the spot determined upon is city property it is idle it is so far away from any portion of the Park that is ever used as to render it absolutely abso-lutely free from clanger the house can be situated on the lot as to be so far away from any of the lanes adjoining that traffic need not be impeded thereabouts Of course every one hopes there will be no need to use the pest house when it is put there but it is difficult to conceive where a more suitable place for the purpose could have been discovered and it is a seriou question if it could be improved upon even though its present use is to be only temporary |
