Show The Library Question The matter of enlarging and extending ex-tending the territorial library as spoken of in these columns a week ago is receiving much favorable attention at-tention and there is every reason to believe that efforts in this direction will receive general support should the matter assume definite shape Every library if open to the public under any reasonable restrictions is a great benefit but the territorial Iibrai7 if placed upon a good footing would be absolutely free from private imputations or association asso-ciation control except in the interest inter-est of the public and be looked upon as an institution belonging to the commonwealth Steps will be taken forthwith with aview to bring ing the affair into tangible form and a week may put an entirely different aspect on the subject One gentleman leading business man says he will contribute S200 as a commencement with a view to the establishment of library perfectly free from individual or association influence of a private character and if needs be he will increase the donation to 300 The subject is now in hand |
