Show SUICIDE t I O vChaiJ rBune 4 Ends His Life Pre U maturely About noon today a great deal of excitement prevailed on Main street in consequence of a report that Charles Bune had committed suicide bytaking laudanum The Darticulais as far as our reporter was able to ascertain were as follows Between 10 and 11 oclock this morning Mr John Colcloth went to the drug store of C L Peebles and called for 25c worth of laudanum which was furnished him in a one ounce bottle by Mr S S Scramm The vial which was full of the drug was labeled poison and Mr Scramm cautioned Golefougli to be careful not to move the label from the vial Colclough then took the bottle bot-tle to Charles Bune by whom he had been sent to purchase the drug when the latter Bune drank a let tIe over one half of its contents Colcough tried but in vain to prevent pre-vent the rash act Shortly afterwards after-wards Bune fell into a deep stupor find lliecame prostrated He was then sitting in a chair at the livery stables of Mr Win Carroll r Marchall Alma Keys attention was called to the condition of the young man He went at once for Dr John D Carnahan who soon arrived but too late Life was extinct still the doctor did all he possibly could to resusctiate the I young man but in vain notwithstanding notwith-standing the faithful efforts of himself him-self and Dr Powers on whom he had called for assistance The pulse had ceased to beat and could not be revived even by means of the electric battery which was charged for this purpose by the physician phy-sician At 2 oclock p m an inquest was held before C F Middleton Esq Several witnesses were examined among whom was Dr Carnahan He testified to being called to attend the deceased and stated that on his arrival he found that life was extinct ex-tinct He was shown an ounce bottle bot-tle which contained a little less than half an ounce of laudanum and which was the vial from which young Bune had drunk the drug The doctor was asked if he thought the quantity which had been taken from the bottle was sufficient to cause death The doctor said he did not think this quantity of laudanum lau-danum alone would cause death immediatelystill it might It is believed that young Bune had taken some of that kind of drug previous to taking the last dose he had ia fact intimated as much and that he had thrown away the other bottle which had contained it Ogden Herald |
