Show Reported Small Pox The report that a genuine case of small pox had been brought to this city by a Utah Central train on Wednesday morning from the north worried some folks not a lit tIe One of the passengers on the train was taken sick and vomited and Conductor Chugg who had personal per-sonal acquaintance with small pox and knew something of its symp toms thought it possiole the man might be troubled with that disease He telegraphed Superintendent Sharp his suspicions Mayor Jennings Jen-nings was at once notified and Dr Clinton quarantine physician was at the depot when the train arrived and took the man in charge An examination con convinced the doctor that it was a mistaken case a conviction which was strengthened when was ascertained ascer-tained that the evening previous the man had eaten heartily of watermelon water-melon and that his vomiting was the result of an overdose of that sweet fruit of the vine He was I from Wood River and had run down Ito I-to see Salt Lake before returning to California He left at 340 yesterday afternoon As a safeguard against all possibility possi-bility of harm the car on i which he came down was thoroughly fumigated fumi-gated and disinfected immediately after its arrival |
