Show T = = = = = = = I iATERRIFIOEXpLOSIO On Hundred Kegs of rowfe P l pode Tfifc Tremendous f c Tiolence Last night at about 10 oclock the whole city was shaken from centre L foundation stone by a tremendous re t port which seemed to come from the northern part of town many pat people who were indoors imagined that th elechonThad just been decided one wav Way or the other and that a cannon had been fired in honor of the successful candidate Those in the street how ever knew that the report and the con emission were too heavy to have been bel caused by any gun and the wildest conjectures were at once rife in all part of the city THE HEAL art and the City Hall were bcsiegej with inquiries from all beiege bt no one was able to afford any informa tion as to the mysterious sound A telephone message was received later however which stated that the magazine maga-zine belonging to the Utah Lime Cement Ce-ment Co two blocks north of the Warm Springs had exploded From Mr Frank Pascoe expoded firm of Pnscoc Varlcy contractors and upon whom theloss1of the powder will upn fal the following icuiars4wereobtaiaed The place used as 2 magazine for the storage of powder ete by the Utah Lime Cement Co is a natural cave running some distance into the rock about 100 yards from the office and Pascoe ct Fancy who are blusting un der contract to the company were getting in readiness for a heavy blast on Tuesday next 200 kegs of Du ponts black powder would be exploded exloded and 100 kegs were on hand last night i stored completely out of sight in the i i back part of the cave Mr Pascoe is positive that some person made a fuse from the mouth of the cave to the kegs and deliberately set the whole wlle number of kegs off there is no other possible way by which the explosion could have occured The force near the scene was terriffic in the extreme 1000 tons of dirt and rock were dis placed and the cave was utterly obliterated the railroad track uttery number of cars belonging to the D Jl ifA were badly dam LSed the comp nyis house where a man slept was not in jured LJSni theory that thc Powder was igriited by a deliberately prepared 1 fuse 1 corroborated by the account of Jiackman who was driving near the ner Warm Spring at the time and who states to Mr Pascoe stt that he saw a small stream of fire running up the side s of a mountain just previous to the report re-port This isaiot the first instance Mr Pascoe said that his firm had suffered from the spite and enmitv of someone some-one in that neighborhood and he would give 1000 willingly he said for evidence that would lead to the dfccov cry of the miscreants The loss on the powder will amount to about 300 |
