Show The Liberal Rally at Provo PROVO Oct 23 1882 Editor Herald We have learned from common report that there was a Liberal religiopolitical entertainment held in the court house here last week which has somewhat disturbed our millennial repose and we are beginning be-ginning to feel anxious about something some-thing in connection with the situation situa-tion There were speeches delivered on lawful morality and legal religion reli-gion and the old orthodox articles of faith were entirely icnored The speakers did not seem to care whether three times one made one or any other number They were not splitting hairs over any such nonsense as the trinity of one but were trying to solve another problem prob-lem It was represented that marriage mar-riage sometimes make one of two and sometimes one of four and sometimes five were thought too few for some took near a score and yet a man without any wife at all might count one at the polls if he voted the liberal ticket It is to be regretted that so much vituperation and personal abase is already manifested in the campaign cam-paign The Peoples candidate does not dare descend to the level of his blackbrowed opponent for that would insure his defeat because there are many who would not vote for a blackguard even if they were obliged to remain away from the polls on election day But it seems I we are to suffer the affliction of a regular political campaign with all I of the usual accompaniments The idea is to awaken an interest among the people by stump speeches and vituperations The people are already al-ready interested and manifestations manifesta-tions show that their interest in the campaign is increasing in about the same proportion as it did in the first artesian yell when they thought the great bore would extend ex-tend through to China W B |
