Show Tariff Convention ChicsgOjlS The Industrial League of America opened the first national tariff convention at Fairbanks Hall Central Masonic Hall building at 11 this morning morn-ing The objects of the convention are purification of the public service restoration restora-tion of the national flag upon the ocean advancment of the interests of the ship building industry regaining our lost places in the carrying trade discussion of the advisability of the early and progressive pro-gressive reduction of internal taxes of the general government and discussion of the means to neutralize new industries upon our soil The convention assembled assem-bled with exGovernor Rufus Butler of Atlanta in the chair He made A brief speech stating the dims and objects of the convention James Scanlan and E H Talbot of Chicago and J B Borber of New York were appointed secretaries and a committee on permanent organization organiza-tion was then chosen including H J Smith of California after which it adjourned ad-journed to 3 pm Among the firms represented at the tariff convention here is the state vine culture society of San Francisco |
