Show WELL DONE 54 Superintendent Rowe Treats Z C M I Factory and Tannery Hands to a Grand BalLast Bal-Last evening a social party wa given to tho employs of Z C M I factory and cannery by Superintendent Superintend-ent W H Rowe The invitation had been issued for some timo in a neat form and everything was nicely arranged by last evening even-ing Mrs Rowe becoming acquainted ac-quainted with these facts immediately immedi-ately set at work tD add her mile to the pleasure of the occasion and without informing any one took tho necessary stops to getting up a fine supper for the guests So yesterday yester-day afternoon the cutting room was cleared out and plate spread on the tablaa for nearly 200 persons the fables being decked with fruit al kinds of cold meats cakes and al that goes to make life 1 tangible and enjoyabl realtiy 3his unexpected unex-pected competition on the part of his wife did not occasion any opposition op-position from Mr Rowe but he left her severely alone to manage her department as she saw fit and in this he displayed more discretion dis-cretion than is usually in the posses sion ot manas the success of the aflair demonstrated In the evening about 300 of the employee and their friends assembled and the dancing commenced which was interspersed throughout tho entire en-tire night with vocal anil instrumental musical selectionssuch aj solos quartettes duet and choruses Just before 1 oclock a handsome secretary secre-tary was carried into tho room which was presented to Superintendent Super-intendent Rowe by Mr Hughes an employ6 in behalf of the other employ as a token of the esteem they entertained for their manager I was evident that tho affair was a complete surprise to the recipient who replied and expressed his gratitude in a few but very apt words Both the presentation speech and the reply were loudly applauded by those iresent as well as the other exercises exer-cises Then came Mrs Howes turn and over half of the guests proceeded to the cutting room were the elegant lunch prepared by tbat estimable lady was spread out anxiously awaiting await-ing the attack This began in down right earnest and it must have done Mrs Rowe as much good to witness the decided relish and rapidity with which the good things disappeared as it did those tbat partcok of the things that resulted her kindness of heart During the repast Mr 08 Burton raveling representative of the factory proposed the toast Our worthy superintendent and friend W H I Rowe to which a reply was made by the subject of the toast Mr Rowe reviewed the history of the factory and tannery briefly reverting to this being its anniversary He Ilso spoke on the relations of the employ and the employer of the bright outlook of the institution of the employment given and the prospect pros-pect and hope that the number of hands may be doubled during tho next year and made a point which i was greatly appreciated by those present when he said he had always been > a practical advocate of the motto that The workingmans best friend is the person who will help him to help himself The remarks were warmly applauded Mr Rowe also proposed the organi zation of an aid society among the employ and there was a unanimous espouse in favor of the suggestion so the aid society will become 1 feature fea-ture ol the factory and tannery He also referred to the services ot Mr D 1 McAllister in connection with the success of the factory and a hearty eta of thanks was tendered that gen leman by all and replied in a few well chosen words expressive of his sentiments Dancing singing and musio again became > the order of the day The utmost ease and freedom was everywhere every-where to bo seen and we question whether upon going home the employ could tell whose efforts they most appreciated those of Mr and Mrs Rowe and whether this lady and gentleman were not happier even than those to whom they had occasioned so much happiness The xampla here set is a worthy one lions W H Hooper William Jennings and Horace S Eldredge had been invited but owing to circumstances cumstances arising were unable to attend |
