on sulphate of iron or copper at threetenths of a cent per pound agreed to Paragraphs covering acetate of leadlitharge orangemin eral c were reserved for further consideration On motion of Allison as a member mem-ber of the committee reporting the bill asphaltnm or bitumen was transferred to the free list The paragraphs covering oxide of zinc were reserved also the paragraphs covering earths or clays wrought or manufactured not specially enumerated also the one covering varnishes of all kinds Miller Calafornia offered an amendment upon which action was reserved until tomorrow making line 381 read opium crude containing con-taining not less than 9 per cent morphia Si per pound Morrill offered the amendments agreed upon by the committee to paragraphs covering alcoholoic preparations charging a duty on alcoholic al-coholic perfumery including cologne co-logne water from 75 per cent adva lorem to 2 per gallon and 50 percent per-cent advaloremand adding the tol lowing distilled spirits containing 50 per cent of anhydrous alcohol 1 per gallon as alcoholic containing 94 per cent anhydrous alcohol 52 per gallon j and alcoholic compounds not specially speci-ally provided for2 per gallon for alcohol containedand 25 per cent advulorem also making the duty on collodion and other alcoholic Preparations pre-parations of pyroline 50 cents per pound rolled orin sheets but not made into articles 60 cents also changing the duty on tannic ocid and tannin to 1 per pound and on sanboren to S3 per pound also adding ad-ding armylio alcohol or fusil oil 10 per cent also adding oil of cognac or oerantic ether 4 per ounce fruit or ether oils or essences Sa50per pound oil or essence of rum or bay rum essence or oil 50 cents per ounce ethers of all kinds not specially enumerated or provided for one dollar per pound coloring for brandy 50 per cent i ad valorem also striking out tha paragraph providing for an additional addi-tional specific duty on all alcohol or distilled spirits contained in articles imported equal to the internal revenue rev-enue tax imposed on domestic distilled dis-tilled spirits These amendments were formally agreed to but will be open for further recommendation recom-mendation that the enacting clause be stricken out Agreed 92 to 53 The committee then rose and no action was taken on the report r Hammond of Georgia from the committee on judiciary submitted a report on the matter of the contingent con-tingent member from Nebraska Printed and recommitted The report re-port states that Thomas J Majors contingent member was resDonsi ble for the misinformation which iiduced the committee to make the report on April 1st 1882 in his favor that he was aided therein by S J Alexander secretary of stateN state-N braska Pat O Hawes
