Show Crop Reports Washington 15The agricultural department returns of July 1st report re-port that the condition of the wheat crop as reported July 1st is much better than June 1st and averages I 83 for the whole country The Atlantic At-lantic states fall off slightly compared com-pared with the returns for the same I time last year but the large wheat region north of the Ohio River and west of the Mississippi return a low condition compared with 1880 Michigan reports only 64 per cent and Illinois 60 Ohio and Indiana are below last year but report fair prospects Missouri and Kansas each make great complaint of damage dam-age from insects In spring wheat the state of Iowa alone returns a condition much lower than last year and which is only 72 CornIncrease of area planted in corn nearly 2 per cent over 1SSO The average condition of the crop is not so high as the last two years and is 90 against 100 of last year In all the north Atlantic states the crop is backward owing to the cold wet spring But in states south of Delaware River and on the Gulf of Mexico is reported as fair Texas however reports serious injury from drought The great corn producing region bordering on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers the average is below be-low last year particularly in the state of Iowa which only reports the condition of 77 caused by cold spring and too much rain in June In Illinois and Missouri the condition con-dition is reported as very favorable Cotton returns to the agricultural department dated July 15th show an increase in the condition of cotton cot-ton since the reports of June the average condition is 95 against 100 at the same time last year |
