Show WIGGINS MAY be a very good weather prophet but he seems to lack the wisdom which if he promised prom-ised would inspire confidence in his predictions The careful weather wea-ther prophet takes the precaution to allow himself sufficient room for honorable escape in case of failure of literal fulfillment of his prediction predic-tion Now had Wiggins asserted last autumn that between the first and fifteenth of March there would occur a destructive storm on land and sea all would have been well for in nine years out of ten such storms do come within the period indicated But when Wiggins gets down to details and fixes his limits within three days he allows him self little or no leeway Wiggins however is > not the man to be defeated defeat-ed If we cannot commend his judgment judg-ment we are forced to admire his bravery The facts are against him and overwhelmingly so and yet he persists in defying them He says his storm will come within the time designated yet it is not here If the man is not mad his position is ludicrous in the extreme One of his turbulent days hasgone and the country seems to have been favored with most delightful weather there being no evidence of even the ordinary or-dinary commotion in the elements that occur at this season We are un n n entering the second day and it bids fair to bring weather suitable for a Sunday School picnic Wiggins persists per-sists in the face of the bright sun and the balmy spring atmosphere that this is the climax day of his three days destruction We will not despise Wiggins as a fraud nor reject him as a humbug but merely suggest that while he evidently thinks he knows something about meteorology he doesnt understand I the alt of guessing at the weather in such a way as to invite confidence fidence in his predictions Yennor his fellow Canadian can distance him as a weather prophet and our own OldProbs can beat them both in sniffing the storm from afar |
