Show Trat < i Wrecked i Chicago 12A dispatch just received ceived from Cairo says that d bad wreck occurred on the Wabash road at Olmstead or near there this morning and no trains have gone out today As the passenger train was due from the north at Cairo at about 9 oclock it is surmised that was the train wrecked A reporter has gone to the scene Wabash authorities au-thorities here have no information ou the subject Cairo Ill 12 The Wabash passenger senger train which left here this morning at 7 ociock was ditched near Olmstead fifteen miles north this city Two coaches caught fire and burned A number of passengers sengers were injured four of them seriously Cause a broken rail Further particulars cannot be obtained tanned at present Cairo 12rrhe passenger train on the Wabash road leaving here at 5 j oclock a m consisting of an engine baggage and two passenger coaches containing about forty issengersmostly Masons returning home from the meeting held here last night was ditched south of Olmstead Illinois this morning throwing the two passenger cars down an eightfoot embankment and setting them on fire completely destroying them The accident was caused by a broken rail Nearly all the passengers were more or less hurt two probably fatally The following is a list of the wounded A P Holloway of Eddyville grand master hurt internally WmlSll well of Shawneetown grand maser mas-er seriously hurt in head Josiah Blackburn of Stonefort shoulder blade and arm broken Dr G A Cummings of Tunnell Hill collarbone collar-bone > broken J L and W T Mo berly of Samoth C S Williams of New Columbia J F Smith of Samoth S J Park McLeansboro W Bartleson Grand Chain Wm Cover and W J Cabbitt Tunnell Hill slightly hurt HollowayBlack burn and Cummings are so seriously seri-ously hurt it is impossible to remove them from Olmstead The rest of I the wounded were sent on their way |
