and control of the east half of VVa3LnEt Square between the hours of 1 and 7 pm on Mon day July otb 1SFO jfo the purpose of giving its initial outdoor entertainment enter-tainment which would consist oi running acd jumping club sports etc The club desired tne privilege ot charging an admission fee of 25c for adult and lor for children under 12 years and of laying out two running tracks erne 120 yards in length tbe other 220 yards in length Referred to the city marshal A pttuition was submitted from John S Barnes and twelve others residents uf the TbirdFourth Seventh and Eighth Ward representing the urgent necessity of extending the main water pipe at the cart car-t possible moment from their present southern terminus at the corner of Filtn South aud Eut Temple directs thence cumin on East Temj li Street ono block t > the south line ot Sum Fouth Street in order tnt resioenU of that viciutj may be enabled to connect their dwellings with said mains and thou supply theIr families with a pure ait cle ol water Various reasons were cited by be petitioners pe-titioners for the necessity of immediately immedi-ately eitendiug tbe mains among which were impure wells caused by the lack of l proper facilities for sewerage sewer-age the spread of malarious diseases more especially dipltheria etc etc Referred to tbo cooiuiitteu on waterworks water-works u James McTicrney by petition asked for the return cf 83 33l unearned un-earned liquor license as he closed business on the 8th ot June at the expiration ex-piration of two mouths ol the quarters quar-ters license for which he had paid Referred to tbe committee on license Wm Wheeler verbally petitioned the Council tot the right to the use of water for his land on the east bench He represented that be had resided upon this land eince 1S6S and that formerly he bad plenty of water but now it was all monopolized upon adjoining lands and he had been unable to raise any crops for a number of years The verbal grievance was referred to the committee en irrigation The Mayor reported that 100 of the corporation bonds series B numbers from 1 to 100 for 500 each had been regularly signed and sealed as required by law advertised for sale and fold for their par valuo end accrued ac-crued interest the amount realized therefrom being 3017565 Report accepted and action approved The mayor submitted his quarterly report ot tbe contingent fund placed in his hands for the three mouths ending May 31tt 1889 showing a total expenditure cf S37G GO Approved Ap-proved She street supervisor reported that pursuant to imtruc ion be had made a more definite estimate of the cost for covering with asphaltum tbe two sidewalks on Fust South street between EU Temple and First East streets to wit south aide 8810 square cot to be covered with aaphaltum at Su per foot 70480 North side 14000 square feet at 83 112000 Total 182480 The report was accepted und tbe sidewalk commissioners instructed to make the assessment required by law exempting ex-empting however such portions of said sidewalk as are already on giade and covered with good subttiutial pavements The committee on financeto whom was referred the auditors report for the quarter ending May Slat 18SO reported that they had carefully examined ex-amined the same compared it with tto book and vouchers and found it correct recommended that it bo accepted ac-cepted as a correct exhibit of the citys finances and as such be pub li = htd in accordance with the requirements require-ments of the charter Adopted Too committee ou streets and alleys to whom was referred the petition of Wm Jones and others in relation to Sixth West street between Third and Fourth South streets reported re-ported that though the street was at present dry and certain 1 md in Plat C occupied and useJ as streets and not included in the towusite entry The Major was authorized to negotiate ne-gotiate for the sale of 100 corporation corpora-tion bonds series B
