Show District t Conncil Convention COAL TILLE SUMMIT Co July llth 1881 Editors Herald By an act of the Legislative Assembly As-sembly approved February 20 1880 the Counties of Summit Morgan Wasatch and Uintah were associated associ-ated together forming one Council District and by an agreement of some of the influential citizens of the Peoples Party resident in said counties delegates from the respective respect-ive counties met in convention at Coalville Summit County July 11 at 1 oclock pm Hon Abraham Hatch of Wasatch County called the meeting to order and on motion of S Francis Abraham Abra-ham Hatch was appointed temporary tempor-ary chairman and Robert Salmon secretary Alma Eldredge moved that the chair appoint a committe of three on credentials The chair appointed Alma Eldredge S Francis and Thos S Watson a committee on credentials creden-tials The committee retired to examine credentials During the absence of the committee a speech was delivered deliv-ered by one of the citizens present The committee on credentials returned re-turned and made the following re portYour Your committee on credentials findthe following named gentlemen entitled to sit as delegates in this convention Hon Abraham Hatch and Thos S Watson Esq of I AVasatch and Uintah Counties Samuel F Atwood Esq John M Malon Esq Alma Eldridge Esq J C Roundy Esq and Charles Richens Esq of Summit County S Francis Esq and Jos R Porter Esq of Morgan County The report was accepted and the committee discharged On motion of Alma Eldridge the temporary organization was made permanent Roil was called and all the members answered present The chairman stated the object of the convention and announced that the committee was now ready to proceed to the nomination of a councilor to the Legislative Assembly Assem-bly On motion of Charles Richens Hon W W Cluff Coalville Summit Sum-mit County was unanimously nominated nom-inated councilor to the Legislative Assembly The chairman suggested that a district central committee be appointed ap-pointed whose duties in the council district should be similar to the duties of of central committees in the counties On motion of Alma Eldridge the chairmen of the central committees of the several counties in the district dis-trict were appointed a district central cen-tral committee and that the chairman chair-man of Summit County central committee com-mittee be the chairman of said district dis-trict central committee It was made the duty of said committee to call conventions to meet at Coal vine whenever any vacancy occurs by death resignation or otherwise or when our political interests may require it and to apportion one delegate del-egate for every 1000 inhabitants in the district On motion of S Francis a vote of thanks was given to the honorable chairman for so ably discharging the duties of the chair The proceedings of the convention were wholly harmonious S Francis moved that a copy of the minutes be sent to the SALT LAKE HERALD Deseret News and Park City Record The convention adjourned subject to the call of the district central committeeABRAHAM ABRAHAM HATCH Chairman ROBERT SALMON Secy |
