Show I ENJGYSfEK QYMIlt SALT LAKE CITY June 23 8 Editors Herald I believe I bare read somewhere that all American citizens are guaranteed guaran-teed the right t go in for enjoyment and happiness Well I am willing I occurs to me luwever that like all other privileges conditional that in the pursuit of happiness and enjoyment enjoy-ment American cit zens are not allowed al-lowed to infringe on the rights of other American citizens in said pur suit Now I like to see people enjoy I themselvEs In fact I may say that my chief enjiyment is to see other people enjoy themselves But singular I sin-gular as it may appear I am not willing that they do BO at my expense It has been very wisely arranged by someone that a out 9 or 10 oclock pm people go to bed and try to sleep and Lest till about 5 or 6 am and that is a great enjoyment to me after a hard days work to have I good sleep undisturbed I missed last night however or rather this morning From about 1 till 1 30 oclock toe uiglt t or rather morning was made hideous with hooting yelling yell-ing and what EOOJG people would call singing by persons in carriages corning corn-ing from the part toirh of the city Unfortunately for me when I wake up about thit time I get no more sleep for that night and I do not enjoy going to work a ter being robbed cheated defrauded out of my sleep bat bow can I help myself if American citizens open gardens and keep them open till midnight and after I suppose thare is no law to prevent it i but I think there is a law against disturbing tbe peace The difficulty is no one will enforce it You must get up out of bed at that untimely hour and try to find a policeman vain task and prefer a charge against the hoodlums I was foolish enough to think that when Mark Lindsay lefc the city all oir woes were at an end The papers or the correspondents in the papers went it pretty steep in regard to late I hours insisting that the gardens should be closed at 10 oclock The result was tbat soon Mark got closed entirely and bad to leave for other paiti I appears as the Irishman said That there are differences and then again there are distinctions between some people and some other people I I am mistaken I will be pleased to acknowledge the corn and in the mean time go with half the proper amount of sleep AN AMERICAN CITJZEN I |
