Show Political Butchery New Orleans 14The primary t lection of delegates to the Democratic Demo-cratic State ncixunating convention was heldthroughout the city The contest in the Seventh ward is regarded re-garded as close much illfeeling was shown whch culmlaated this afternoon in a terrible tragedy at the polls at the corner of Monroe and St Barnard streets It appears that a man whoae name is unknown came up to vote and challenged Captain Foster Fos-ter and his brother stated that he tried to get the man from in front of the poll but the man was filially knocked down or fell down A shot was then fired which seemed to be a signal as firing immediately became general The greatest excitement ex-citement prevailed the poLce being powerless against the combatants When the bhootinp ceased it was found that Captain Michael J Foster Fos-ter a prominent Ogden champion was mortally wounded He was removed to his residence where he expired in a few minutes He leaves a wife and three children Captain Foster is well known as the commander of a battery in the competitive drills at Nashville Indianapolis and other places Gus Eenaud superintendent of streets of the Seventh ward under Commissioner Com-missioner Fitzpatrick was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Fifth precinct where he died in a little while Four wounds were found on his body He leaves a wife and one child Edward Ed-ward Mason deputy constable received re-ceived three balls in the leg severing sev-ering an artery and he survived a short time He leaves a wife and two children |
