Show THE CHINESE government has arrived ar-rived at the conclusion that it ia not profitable to send young men to America and pay their expenses in order that they may be converted to the free institutions institu-tions of this country It is willing that they should be educated but not liberalized and after serious deliberations deliber-ations for some time it has discovered discov-ered that the broad ideas imbibed by the young men it sent to Connecticut to be educated may prove a future menace to the peace of the Celestial government Therefore the commission com-mission is to be broken up and the vonng men be taken back to the land of the Flow ery Kingdom The country of Confucius is in an unfortunate predicament pre-dicament Should the young men be as thoroughly imbued with the spirit of America as appears to be the casa reither the breaking up of the commission at Hartford Connecticut Con-necticut nor the sending homo of the young men will have the desired effect If China does not want American ideas disseminated dissem-inated among her people and once disseminated they are sure to take I root and grow BO that no power on I earth can arrest their progressthe best thing aDS can do ia i to put the I young men out of the way in I the most expeditious manner possible Now what she should have done under the circumstances would have bean to invits the young men to make America their home I to leave China and her people severely I verely alone To take them back is the worst possible thing the government govern-ment could do it is like putting ones hand into the fire The chances are that before China gets through J I with this experiment she will find that a little American liberal education educa-tion is dangerous thing |
