Show TELEGRAPHIC WKECKI WINDS More Destructive Cyclones ia the East Council Bluff Iowa 10Spec despatches to tho Nonpareil give the particulars of a terrible tornado that swept through the southeastern part of Pottawattamie County hat evening The cyclone or tornado u described by eyewitnesses eye-witnesses as something terrible Wind clouda were first observed forming both east and west of Whbelera Grove the point where the most destruction occurred occur-red and in a thort time they came together to-gether Tne cloud which was conical in shape came to the ground near the grove traveling eastward The track of the storm was about half a mile in width and swept everything before it demolishing leg farm houses barns and other buildings build-ings and carrying somo of them bodily for hundreds of feet then dathing them to the ground in piece At one place a farmers house surrounded by a frail fence was picked up and then dashed to pieces in the yard leayiog every board of the fence remaining in its place There Were from fifteen to twenty porous por-ous killed outright and many wounded while others cannot be found Those known to have been killed were Jeese Osier wife and two children Wra Pace wife and his two children and another child fatally iniureiL Alex Oler wife and child were earned ear-ned in the air almost a hundred feet and seriously injured the child fatally A hired nun employed by the latter came unknown was killed and other persons six or eight in number were carried away and have not yet been found The Scene after the storm spent its fury is described as heartrending in the extreme Not a house in the track of the tornado was left standing and boards were ground to tinder The storm did not last fifteen minutes and was not accompanied brain b-rain Doctors from this city Red Oak and other points have gone to assist in taking care of the injured and bury the dead No railway or telegraph facilities to the scene of the disaster and reports are meagre as yet It is thought the storm struck other points but not with so great force as at Wheelers Grove St Paul 10A special to the Pioneer frets states that one of the most violent storms ever known occurred in south etsternilinnestta this morning The wind blew a hurricane and the water fell in sheets Paul Vadrafki was killed by lightning in a lumber yard at Vinona houses were unroofed and other damage dune trains Were supended and delayed There was a big washout between Homer and Lamoille also at Minnesota City and Weaver The storm was very severe between Rochester and Winona and I caused the total suspension of train I Tho village of Stockton was inundated |
