Show Railroad Accident An accident occurred the Utah Central freight train No 8 at Kays Creek siding a short distance north of Kaysville last evening in which one empty box car and three or four loaded cars were ditched and badly mashed From all we could learn last night it seems that the front brakesman had instructions to leave an empty car in the side track at Kays Creek by making a flying switch and that the rear brakeman brake-man had not been informed of the move to be made and did not slow the train for the purpose of giving those ahead time to execute the maneuver The head brakemai I uncoupled the empty car and engine and they ran ahead to make thc fly They had just made the shunt when they discovered the trail coming down on them at full speed The brakesman signaled the engineer en-gineer who put on steam and pulled out as fast as possible but not be fore the tender of the locomotive was somewhat damaged by the collision I lision as the train crashed into the empty car I Fortunately nobody was hurt News being telegraphed to S tIt Lake a special tram was dispatched to the scene of the wreck and as I the track was so obstructed by the wreckage that the regular express I train from Ogden could not pas i the passengerswith tho baggage express and mail mattr were transferred to the speeiil train and brought to Salt Lake arriving at about 1030 oclock pm |
