Show CITY COUNCIL Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday evening March 15th 1881 Alderman Colder presiding May 8 Rumel made application for license t transact business a liquor dealers at No 64 First South street for a term of three months from thu 10th day of March 1881 under the provisions of the liquor ordinance recently passed Granted Russell Burns petitioned for the transfer of their license to sell cigars t Mr Jule E Clasbey at No 135 East Temple street Granted The City Auditor submitted his quarterly report showing the liiian cial condition of the corporation for tho three months ending February 28th 1SS1 Balance in treasury at last report 8018342 receipts during quarter 6410 514 disbursements 34281510 balance in treasury at close of business February 2sth 1881 499540 The report was received re-ceived and referred to the committee commit-tee on finance The report of the supervisor of streets forthe quarter ending February Feb-ruary 281881 was presented showing show-ing an expenditure in his department depart-ment of 8392005 besides S53 days of prison labor at SI per day Ssij Total S4783G5 Of the foreffointr amount j 105640 had been expended for labor performed on the Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal and S2C02J on First South street sidewalk side-walk improvement Report received and referred to the committee on claims The quarterly report of the superintendent super-intendent of water works was submitted sub-mitted showing that during the quarter ending February 28 1SS1 the work of pipe laying previously begun had been completed at a cost t the city of si20241 This amount did not include cost of freight on piping Twentynine services had been furnished to water takers at a cost of S550 81 being an average of 1 each The account current showed a total expenditure during the three months of 195195 Amount of appropriation 81500 balance overdrawn 545195 The superintendent had the satisfaction to report that everything pertaining t the water works and service was in good condition and working order Referred to the committee on water works The committee on construction of Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal reported that during the month of February 1SS1 the sum of SO4CSS5 had been expended on construction light of way material bridges Mimics acknowledging deeds engineering en-gineering etc Referred to the committee on finance The committee on public grounds reported unfavorably upon the peition of G W Hill who asked permission 10 purchase a three cornered piece o land south of the Bath House enclosure The committee com-mittee considered that the land in question would eventually be used tor a street Adopted The committee on irrigation reported re-ported unfavorably upon the petition peti-tion of Edward Brain asking that that portion of the Twentieth Ward water ditch running through his lot in the Eighteenth Ward be llumed but recommended that the ivatermaster render petitioner all Lho assistance he can consistently in repairing the ditch and protecting pro-tecting the property from danger of overflow Adopted The committee on public grounds reported unfavorably upon the petition of J II Van Natta and Lewis Oviatt who asked the privilege lriYi lege of leasing a parcel of land used a a gravel bed north of the Warm Springs The committee recommended recom-mended however in order to give petitioners protection t the right of way to their rock quarry that the supervisor have control of said gravel bed Adopted Appropriations were made as follows fol-lows To Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal 20000 to street improvement im-provement account 1000 to waterworks water-works 500 to watermasters contingent con-tingent fund 850 The committee on ways and means reported adversely upon the petition of the Salt Lake City Railroad Rail-road Company asking the repeal of the per capita tax provided for in the charter given to said company by the City Council The committee on license to whom was referred the application of Jule E Clasbey for license a a liquor dealer to sell vinous spirituous spiritu-ous and fermented liquors etc at Xo 135 East Temple street reported favorably thereon and recommended recom-mended that the license be granted Adopted Adjourned for one week |
