Show SNEAKING OUT OF If As everybody knew would be the case our morning contemporary refuses re-fuses to state the names of the parties par-ties that it alleged had made threats against it and declines to give the data upon which the senseless application ap-plication for protection was based This silence confirms the public in the belief that there was absolutely nothing in the scare which the Tribune Tri-bune assumed It is an old dodge of that paper It has been worked for yearsand become stale and commonplace common-place It is no longer even sensational sensa-tional Nevertheless itis disreputable disreput-able and beneath a respectable journal People who have submitted submit-ted for ten years to the vilest slander and abuse in the Tribune are not apt to riee up now and resent re-sent the villification They have endured more than any other community under the sun would have suffered It has often been thought that our contemporary was annoyed at the stubborn selfrestraint of the people peo-ple and would rejoice were the community to break loose and commit com-mit some act that would fasten the fetters upon them Whatever else the Mormons may be they are not fools and they rarely play into the hands of their enemies If they had been given to such acts of folly they would have been in a sad fix long ago for the traps that have been laid for them and the schemes invented for their capture and I overthrow have been as numerous as they must be discouraging to a certain class The Tribune may possibly entertain fearswe do not believe it has any nor that it has ever been in the least degree alarmedbut this much we know that so far as being in any danger from a mob is concerned it Is the safest establishment in Silt Lake |
