Show The Two Orphans Last evening Miss Kate Claxton the great emotional actress appeared ap-peared as Louise in The Two Orphans Or-phans to a large audience The acting during the performance was some of the finest of the kind that has ever been witnessed on this stage The piece has been seen here several times but always takes well and is one of the most emotional dramas on the stage 10day The character of the poor blind girl in the hands of Miss Claxton is an entirely en-tirely new one and is made so intensely in-tensely interesting by her admirable details that there is a continual feeling of suspense on her account The acting was so extremely natural I and many of the scenes so pathetically pathetic-ally real that the applause was prolonged and genuine and eyes could be seen in all parts of the Theatre filled with tears This was not only on one or two occasions but became a feature of the evening The accent the walk the articulation in fact everything about Miss Claxtons acting was that of the genuine artist The support sup-port all told was very good Mr Stevenson did well in the characters of Pierre and the Chivalier the old hag was in fine hands and Hen rietta shared the applause and honors hon-ors of the evening Picard was also excellently rendered One or two minor characters were not well sustained sus-tained but the evenings performance perform-ance was not marred on that account ac-count Tonight Charles Reades great drama of The Double Marriage will be presented On Friday evening Frou Frou will be performed instead of The Double Marriage the latter piece being given for a matinee on Saturday Satur-day afternoon instead of the former On Saturday night the engagement closes with The Two Orphans |
