Show ANTIMONOPOLY I A Good Talus ti Rlshlly nun aged New Yok29A new organization called the National AntiMonopoly League held a meeting last night in Cooper Institute L E Chittenden presiding pre-siding Among those present were Rev Berber Hewton F B Thurber and Harry George The president in welcoming wel-coming the merchant and workmen present said it was the outgrowth of the gnt ment in the community against tho gigantic monopc lies of the day They had appointed an executive committee who had prepared an address which would bi sent to merchants and others in cities and largo towns in the United totals P B Thurber on behalf of the committee read an address It ays the league was established for the protection of the citizen against the aggression of corporations to advocate advo-cate and support and defend the right of the many against privileges for the few The league will endeavor to secure among others the following specified results Laws compelling transportation companies to base their charge upon the cost and risk of the service instead of the new theory enunciated by them what will the traffic bear Laws to prevent pooling and combinations and discrimination against any citizen on the I public highways no taxing the public lo pay dividends on watered stock stringent strin-gent laws against bribery including the inhibition of free passes After Jho Thnrber address Henry George addressed the meeting at con iderable length on tho effects railroad monopolies In California John F Henry exmayor of Brooklyn followed riving his experience of railroad opera ions and endorsing George statements regarding the business of California The address was unanimously approved and it was decided the committee should obtain a permanent place of assembling |
