Show 1E CITY COUNCIL Prcceedings at the City Council Tuesday evening June 21st 1SS1 AldermanDinwoodey presiding A petition from George Showell was submitted setting forth that being engaged in the business of removing re-moving nightsoil from the premises of private citizens and being led to believe that the city has no suitable place for the deposit of such matter or for the burial of the carcases of animals dying in the city he respectfully re-spectfully proposed to furnish five acres of suitable land in a fit position posi-tion for the uses mentioned provided pro-vided hat the city marshal Shall at all times have supervision in the interest in-terest of the city in consideration of the fact that the place be designated desig-nated as the ground selected by the city for the purposes mentioned The petitioner also suggested to the Council that he would be pleased to accept a position as city scavenger to clear the main streets of ashes and other refuse by contract or otherwise Referred to the committee com-mittee on streets and alleys A petition from William Hyde was presented setting forth that during his incumbency as city jailor he furnished meals for city prisoners prison-ers at a greatly reduced rate for a period of nearly two years and asking ask-ing an appropriation of the difference differ-ence between the amount paid him at said reduced rate and the amount I at present allowed for prisoners meals Referred to the committee on claims The city attorney made a report of the condition of the citys business busi-ness in his hands for the quarter ending May 31st 1SS1 showing I eighteen cases in various stages of litigation Received and placed on file The committee on enrollment reported re-ported that an ordinance providing for the levying and collecting of a tax for the improvement of certain sidewalks and a resolution ratifying and confirming the sale of Market Lot had been properly enrolled signed by the Mayor and filed in the office of the City Recorder Report filed The committee on public grounds to whom was referred the petition of B Y Hampton intimating that he would like to purchase a certain parcel of ground on the North Bench providing the terms fixed therefor shall come within the scope of what he calls reasonable reported that they had given the matter careful consideration and were prepared to recommend that the petitioner have the privilege of purchasing the land desUed by him provided his ideas of what is reasonable rea-sonable shall coincide with the views of his honor the Mayor and provided that the land in question is not wanted by the city for public pub-lic purposes Adopted Bil of R B Williams for collecting collect-ing dog tax for the month of May 26 was allowed The subject of opening the grounds recently purchased by the city for a park with suitable ceremonies cere-monies was referred to the committee commit-tee on public grounds with the city attorney associated Adjourned for one week |
