Show A Sad Eemiaiep I Qn Friday Mr James Dwyer received re-ceived a sad reminder of the w 6kIof f the steamer Vera Cruz Ho had sent a package of photographic vlgwa to to Mr J Z Stewart who irjn the City of Mexico and the vfiimJfj9 with the mail that left NewYprtjflp the Vera Cruz on tba 2jJlkjlftyi < al I August last Four days JQcj1 63 Sunday tbe 29tb a terrific storm arose which destroyed a number of vessels and caused a heavy loss of life in the Gulf of Mexico The Vera Cruz was among the number and out of the seventy foals who left New York on the steamer all but about twenty were lost off the Coast of Florida Among other thins washed ashore were the photographs sent by Mr Dwyer to Mr Stewart The address was lost but the little tab employed by Mr Dwyer still remained intact and tbe photographs were returned to him arriving on Thursday night They are views of prominent persons and notable place here Eome are almost a fresh and clear a originally and others are less and less distinct until in some the outlines can no longer be traced They were alto stuck cloeely together by the briny water and could be separated only with difficulty They aro very curious curi-ous and will be prized as mementos of the loss of a fine steamer and many lives and as a conUnt reminder of the perils of the mighty deep |
