Show ThB Fnter t As announce tho funerala over the remains of Dr I 0 Snedaks and Captain B T Smith the victims of Wednesdays tragedy were held on Friday the former at 10 oclock the latter at 8 The friends of the doctor had tolegiapbed to have hie remains sent to Lexington Ky ba nis brothers and relatives though they bad better be interred here forth present at least Tho announcement however that they would be sent Away kept many from attending the I funeral who would otherwise hay gone Rev Vrr M Barrowa delivered 1 brief address over the remain at the doctors late residence on Third South street when they wera conveyed con-veyed to the carriages and in charge of tbe Odd Fellows were escorted to the City Cemetery Here the Odd Fellowship rtes were performed the chaplain offered up a prayer the members of the order each dropped 1 sprig of evergreen on the coffin the earth was placed upon it and all that remained of Dr B C Snedaker wa left to undergo the inevitable change and mingle with Iho dust Before 3 oclock a large crowd of friend and the curious together with members of the different Masonic orders assembled at the Masonic Hull where the remains of Captain Smith had been under uard of the Knights Templar since Thursday morning The orders formed outside with the Knig is Templar at the head and while Ihe remains were being taken from the hal to the hearse the Fort Douglas band which was in attend ance played a few bars of a dirge The band than moved o the head of the procession which marched on with the Knights Templar nt the head the baser order next the hearse guarded by Knights Templar and ho carriages containing the friend i of the deceased following the hearse 1ho procession was very long und headed by tbe band which played as they marched presented 3 very imposing appearance and drew out huge crowds of people all along the route After they hid marched to First South stroet and then eatt a couple of blocks the procession halted and the Knights Templar got into carriages and rode In this manner they proceeded to Mount Olivet where the rites of the order occupy lug about twenty minutes wero performed formed and tho band played twice The services it the cemetery lasted about thirty minutes and the cortege returned to this city leaving all that was left of Captain R T Smith to return to mother earth |
