Show THAT DOUBLE HOMICIDE On Friday morning last we pub p liahed the fact that two men bad beer f killed at Eagle Reek by citizens thE I homicide being in every respect justifiable justi-fiable The particulars of the affaii are given below aa taken from the Blackfoot Register On the morning of the above day a man named Wm Mohan who was name foreman for Messrs Walker Willis who have a large herd of cattle near Eagle Rock and a man named 0 B Gilliland who was in the employ of the same firm came to town and after buying several bottlts of beer and drinking them became very abusive insulting everyone who came in the store Geo Payne and Wm Toombs were invited by them to drink but refusing were forced to at the point of a sixshooter Son after they rode across the bridge several time making inquiries as to whether none wcud call on them to pay oil and finaly went around looking for the man who attends to the bridge thinking to shoot him Mohan carry ng his Kixshobter in his hand Mr J r H Uartinecu was iu a room on ho second floor of the boarding i house standing by the window hu ing himeel when Mohan who happened hap-pened to me him drew his sixshooter and fired at him the ball pacing just over his head Mr W H Keller Kel-ler who has charge of the store tried to make thorn desist but could only pacify them for a moment until tome now thing caught their eye They went out to the corral and commenced com-menced shunting at the chickens killing several and then commenced shooting promiscuously cauiog men who were at work on the railroad to leave for fear of being shot Seeing Mr AneUrton dog they shot and killed i At ihia times Mr Keller and a men named Cbamberlin who happened to be in the store took a couple of shot guns and went cut to make them quit What followed wo take from tbe testimony of Mr Mar tineau who says Saw Keller and I Cbamberlin come out of the store armed Gilliland was standing by a post in the corral Saw Gihland fire at Keller and Ohamberlin who returned re-turned the fire and Gilliland fell Mohan was close by Gilliland when he fell Mohan ran behind a shed at the rear of the stable and continued firing through the cracks between tbe boards of the stable Keller and Cbamberlin continued firing until I Mohan nas killed James Allan testified Saw Keller and Cbamberlin going toward the corral nilb guns taw Mohan fire through the fence bt them He fired once and ran back toward the etable He fired again through wnere the door is broken and tbo ball struck a pott between him aud Keller I bowed Keller and Cbamberlin where ru > had gone and he Mohan seeing rue pointing toward him aimed his eizahot nt me but teeing Keller and ChHCibfrlin he turned it on them i Joseph Rsmmell testified corroborating corrobo-rating the above testimony rat I Mohan and Gilliland fire a Keller and Ohamberlin The fro was returned re-turned and Gilliland fell I went into the store and got 1 Brsbooter and Iran toward the rear end nl the stable Mohan saw me ixuJ abet at me I shot at him twice dont know whether I bit him or COt Eghteen more witnuaes were fX ammed all of their testimony cor i roboratetl the above I j A jury of six sat 6t the coroners inquest vrho gave A verdict in accordance I ac-cordance with the facts justifing the manner in which they were t lon I I off winding up with the following We further find that tbo said William Wil-liam Mohan and C B Gilliland were desperadoes c the wont character and ever since their arrival in Oneida County have been a terror to the community in which they have resided re-sided |
