Show I CITY COUNCIL Proceedings at the City Council on Tuesday evening August 24tb 1SSO Mayor Little presiding Messrs Keyser Moritz petitions for tbe privilege of conducting water from a spring near the Burns brewery brew-ery through Tenth East and Fifth South streets to their brewery Referred Re-ferred to the committee on streets and alleys A communication from Joseph A West was submitted calling attention to the action of the Council taken last week in authorizing tbo Mayor t purchase sufficient 6inch piping to extend tbe water mains a distance of one block ta Waiihinpton Sauare involving i a cost of 1000 Desiring to make an early and thorough test of tbe new Jicnt weight water pipe Mr West oflared to make tbe abovenamed extension with good serviceable 6 inch pipe capable ol sustaining 800 pounds prea sure for 650 said amount to cover cost of trenching and laying as well a cost of connecting hydrants 1 and entire cost of pipe Should tbe pipe fail to give satisfaction tbe com pany > would take i out at no cost to tbe city but should it answer the purpose required and give entire satisfaction alter a reasonable time for testing baa elapsed the city could pay tbe price proposed Referred to the committee on water works A communication was submitted from Surveyor Jes e W Fox making an approximate t mate of tbe cost of constructing construct-ing the Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal from Little Cottonwood to Filth South and Tenth East streets of this city The total estimate including in-cluding grading flumes culverts etc was 15569885 This was the estimate ot the upper route the estimate esti-mate of the lower route not yet being be-ing completed Tbe communication was laid over to come up in its order A bill for five firemen for labor tour days sprinkling South Temple street 20 was allowed Tba Mayor called attention to tbe statement which has been telegraphed to the city newspapers of the contemplated contem-plated visit to Salt Lake City of President Presi-dent Hayes and party and stated that he had recently learned from an official source that the distinguished visitors would arrive here early in September The mayor desired to know what action the City Ceuncil as rapresentatives of the citizens of Salt Lake City wished to take for the reception of the chief executive of the nation and the other officials traveling travel-ing with him On motion tbe courtesies tesies and hospitalities of the city wera extended to President Hayes and party and tbe customary committees were appointed on behalf of the City Council for the proper reception and entertainment of the honored gentlemen gentle-men should tbev consent to become the guests of the city Adjourned for one week |
