Show I THE PRELIMINARY examination ot Schroeder for the murder of Dr LsFevre at Oakland Oft I about two weeks since has concluded and the defendant been held without bail The examination was full and excited a great deal of interest tho defendant was surprised at his retention and the public generally whose lympathy would stem to be with Schroeder was also surprised Schroeders wife confessed con-fessed that LeFevre bad seduced her but it was nearly a month after the confession before the assassination was committed The defense attempted I at-tempted to set up the plea of temporary tempor-ary insanity but the court wisely held the evidence to be euch that he would be compelled to bold the defendant de-fendant without bail Temporary insanity in-sanity is a plea that is being worn threadbare and the idea that one man is justified in taking the life of another because he feels wroneed and needs only to work up an insanity insan-ity in order to secure an acquittal is becoming too general In cases such as Scbroederd there is great wrong but it take two persons to be guilty I of that wrong |
