Show KOODY AND SASKEY 5 I SALT LAKE Crnr Oct 2 S Editors Herald Yon have been t bear Messrs Moody and Bankey as a matter oj course I went to hear them hut night not exactly so mnoh as 1 mattercJ choice I suppose they dont mind being talked about in the papers J I bought they did I would not tvk about them Tne revival buHines singing praying and preaching manifestly agrees with tbem whatever what-ever it may do for some other poor sinners They these two are lusty men Mr Bankey appears JO shave his chin and a piuce of tbe cop of his bead Mr Moody doesnt appear to have shaved bis face for many days but he may have used tho scissors freely The proceedings of the evening as I saw them were first Mr Sankey invited singers in the audience to go and sit upon the platform and fill it He presided at tbe organ in tbe front centra of the stand and led tbe singing He and tbe other singers sang portions of various hymns The oangregation was invited t join Then Mr Sankey would sing a verge solo the platform singers md the congregation some of tbe congregation I congrega-tion joining in the chorus Mr Ban key sings agreeably and be knows how to accompany But be does not want to do alt the singing himself The singing bad the way of a ort of familiar concert or an overture to the main business of the evening and lasted thirty or forty minutes Toward To-ward tbe latter part of the singing M Moody strongly invited the congregation con-gregation to join in it but the congregation con-gregation did not join to any great extent Perhaps the people did not know the tune He bad the audience audi-ence on its feet to get it to launch out lustily in singing but not very successfully 1 w a a congregation that for some reason or other didnt enthuse alarmingly After prayer and more singing Mr Moody entered on discourse which was upon the characteristics and offices of Joins Christ Like Paul Mr Moody was determined to know nothing but Jesus Const and him crucified The sermon lasted the orthodox thirty or forty minute and was delivered extempore in a rather rapid manner with considerable appropriate ap-propriate gesture at times and an occasional burst of cumulated emphasis em-phasis I was a pretty good sermon of the kind containing come excellent ex-cellent ideas aptly illustrated sometimes times by a telling anecdote There were eome sensible things in the sermon ser-mon The moderate length of it was one of its most sensible features Tho hour and a half sermon i not exactly the thing for everyday spiritual diet One needs to be very spiritually hungry hun-gry to enjoy so long a repast A prayer meeting followed for which I did not stay In a theatre in Dublin during 1 recent revival lime one actor asked another how he felt fie said he felt very moody I Well said the other I feel very sankoymonious This joke did not tike very well with the theatre audience Perhaps the majority major-ity felt too rankeymondy just then on j general principles I cant say that I I felt just that way whatever the feeling j feel-ing may have been Tbe meeting was not melancholy hut lively and interesting though I dont know that I I got converted When Iknof that i I am I may let you know SKLAH I |
