Show TELEGRAPHIC NEWS The Nary Reorganization Washington 24 Secretary Chandler has addressed a letter to the Chief of each Bureau of the Navy Department calling attention to the recommendations I of the Commission concerning the reorganization reor-ganization of the navy yards end the disposition proposed to be made of each yard The commandants of the various yards have been furnisbed a copy of the letter and requested to assist in carrying out thee plan of the Commission The Secretary alludes to the statistics of navy yards and saya they show an enormous r daily expenditure on the 16th day of November 1882 namely for 657 firemen fire-men clerks and employee other than ordinary mechanics and workingmen 2179 and 3805 other employee 9130 making 4462 total employees at a daily compensation of 11319 or at the rate of 3000000 a year when the only work in progress on ships of war at all the yards was repairing the Omaha Shenandoah Trenton Ossippo Mohican Mohi-can and Alert Secretory Chandler considers this an enormous expenditure for such feeble results and inconsistent with faithful administration |
