Show Arrested for Extortion Deputy United States Marshal Sprague yesterday arrested p j Gorman and C V Whiting pQr8a ant to an indictment found by the grand jury the charge being extor tion The gentlemen referred to being questioned relative to the matter said that a boy in the em > ploy of the former at various times nad purloined money from his om ployer and Mr Whiting and tsng detected had confessed his guilt whereupon his friends intervened and insisted upon and worked for a compromise and after much per suasion the defendants agreed to take 200 and drop the matter a note for the amount being aiv nand n-and 100 paid on it next day m for taking this note and money that the parties were indicted and arrested ar-rested We give the statement as we received it Mr Whiting claims that nearly the whole amount for which the affair was compromised s was taken from him alone S 1 |
