Show oils Gross Feces Highland Fop First Time By DAVE WIGHAM WOODS CROSS - In their first year of competing on a varsify level a year ago, the Wildcats set some new records for the school. In essence es-sence they were making history his-tory every time they stepped onto the field. MORE HISTORY will be written this week when the Cats battle the Highland Rams for their first time ever. They also get in the history books for their first-ever first-ever Region Five game under the new realignment. Both the Cats and the Rams have unbeaten streaks on the line on Friday as both are sporting 2-0 preseason marks. The Rams destroyed Alta and then downed rival East while the Wildcats have downed both Cyprus and Jordan in impressive style. COACH ROGER Dupaix is trying to bring back some respectability to the school that is known for their basketball prowess. Looks like he has things headed in the right direction. He looks to senior Rich Orr to run the club at quarterback with Paul Holbrook and Tapu Tupunu as the runners. These three figure big in the Rams plans for the year with Orr having a good throwing arm and the two backs possessing good speed. WORD IS out that the Highland club has some huge people up front to make things rough on opponents in the form of Don Smith at 6'3" and 245 pounds. Steve Miner, 5'11",175, also has drawn praise from his coach, When the ball is in the air for the Rams, Orr looks to tight end Mike Mangleson or split receivers Nick Lords and Morgan Wilson. COACH DUPAIX talked about his style of offense this season. "We throw a lot more than last year. The kids like the idea and we have some good skilled people." When asked about the Cats, the Ram head man was unsure un-sure what to expect. "I have only seen them for one half against Cyprus. I was impressed with them. They were ahead at the time so I'm sure we didn't see everything they run." He went on to note that he didn't know if the Cats would throw a lot on his club or not. WITH KEVIN Nitzel running run-ning the club, you can bet Coach Hawkins will put the ball in the air. Only a junior, he is turning into a great passer who has some excellent ex-cellent people to throw to. Last week, Nitzel, Reed Call, Jeff Lewis and Mark Earnshaw all got into the end zone so the Cats have a diversified attack. Key to this outing will be the ability of the smaller line of the Cats to control the much bigger Ram line. To give the offense time and to stop the Ram offense will take a great effort from the likes of Marty Tippitts, Jason Whitney, Whit-ney, Mark Tate, Call, Terrin Hallows and others. COACH DUPAIX then talked about this new region he finds himself in. "It has to be one of the best in the state. There simply isn't an easy team in the bunch. Some thought that South would be down but they seem to be playing great ball. It's well balanced and you have to take them one at a time." ' The practice games are over for a while. This one is for keeps. Both clubs would like to come out on top in their region opener. The outcome out-come will depend on the battle bat-tle in the trenches, the quickness quick-ness of the Cats against the size of the Rams. |
