Show FOR ERECTION OF NEW ARMORY Bill Will Be Introduced in Leg Legislature Legislature Legislature by Military Com Corn Committee CornI of Senate and House Houser j I r Within a short time a bill wilt will be pre presented presented presented to the legislature by the commit committees committees committees tees on military affairs of the tile senate and the house providing for tOr the construction pf pt a new armory armor along the lines tines recommended mended in the biennial report of ot Adjutant General E 1 A Wedgwood of the National Guard of Utah These recommendations are that the legislature authorize the state land board to loan to the National Guard sio for the purpose of erecting the arm armory armory ory according to plans drawn by the ad adjutant adjutant adjutant general The amount now paid for armory rental wilt will pay interest at 5 per percent perI perCent i cent on a loan of this thU amount so 1 0 that no I appropriation to build the armor armory will be e enece I necessary nece ary and in tn addition to that the mon money money ey now expended for armory rental will revert to the state ay as interest on this loan In line with this proposed legislation Ad Adi Adjutant General Wedgwood Is in receipt of or ofa ora a letter tetter from the officer of the ordnance department of the United States army who recently inspected the First battery of the National Guard The officer asks the amount of floor space In the armory available for the use of o the battery and whether or not there Is any prospect of the construction of ot a new armory suit suitable suitable suitable able for quarters of the battery and other National Guard organizations The Th inquiries of the ordnance officer were made In order to ascertain whether or not It would be advisable to furnish the Utah National Guard with the new No 3 field gun and material The battery batten Is ts Isnow Isnow now equipped with the old model gun which is now almost obsolete The new gun with its accessories is a delicate piece of mechanism and it is necessary that am ample ample ampie pie quarters for the careful handling of these guns may ma be provided For that reason the question of quarters is a vital ono one and Is Inquired Inq into carefully careful by the war department before these guns are al at allotted allotted to an organization In reply General ral Wedgwood has written the ordnance officer expressing the th belief that the present legislature would make arrangements for or the erection of a suit Bult suitable able abl armor to answer all purposes of ot the guard for tOr years to come The suggestion has been made that the armory be erected on Capitol hill hili This proposed site was vas wa visited by Governor Spry Adjutant General Wedgwood and Senator W y N Williams of the committee I Ion on military affairs The possibilities of the location of the new armory on the state grounds on this hill hilt were ere discussed I but no recommendations were made |
