Show m HAS NEW CLASSIFIER j Well Known Inventor of Ore Separating Devices Evolves Something Different I IG G 0 A professor of mining minin and mill design at the University who is the inventor of a number of ore dress dressing dreSSing dressing ing devices has recently completed a classifier which has proven an extremely i satisfactory piece place of apparatus The elm clas sifter sUler is at present set up in the metal metallurgy metallurgy metallurgy building of the University where j It Jt was built A number of oC tests have bave I been run ron through It which have hae proved i It successful in every respect new classifier cl does not de tie depend depend pend pond on the old oki principle of separating i ithe ithe the different sizes of crushed ore by dl I reeling it through screens of different I meshes but the different grades are sop sep separated by each grade being carried by bywater bywater water flowing at a certain velocity The velocity of the water is regulated by hav bar having havIng baring ing it flow from a common head through pipes of varying diameters In the pres present present present ent apparatus which was constructed for Cor experimental purposes the ore Is sep sop separated separated Into fifteen different sizes which can be transported from the classifier I to any part of the mill The classifier i inot not only performs the tile function of the regular gular n classifier but it also acts ap a a I settling tank I The classifier consists of fifteen par parallel parallel upright tubes connected to a com corn common common cornmon mon pipe running along the bottom of them This pipe Is placed slanting and tho tube of largest diameter at the up upper upper upper per end The tubes then than th n diminish in diameter until the tube of smallest bore which is at the extreme lower end At Atthe Atthe Atthe the junctions of the tubes and the com corn common common cornmon mon pipe are nozzles nozzle which send the wa water Water a ater ter flowing from a common head hend up the tubes The crushed ore mixed with water is admitted at the too upper tipper 1 end of the com corn common common cornmon mon pipe and It is then forced into the larger tube the one where the water has the least velocity Here the light mud and silt sUt flow out of the top of the tube and the heavier particles which cannot be lifted by this tow low velocity flow to the next tubs tube where the next heavier ore is eliminated This operation continues go going going going ing to the smaller tubes in which the velocity increases proportionally to the decrease in the size of the tubes It fin finally finally ally any reaches the smallest bores where only concentrates remain and these are forced out the top of the last tube tub The construction is exceedingly simple and the process Is one on Professor Over OYer Strom classes as fool proof There arc are areno no adjustments to make and It does not need regulating so iO an Inexperienced boy could tend It as well as an expert mill millman millman millman man Another Important feature is that this classifier does not require any power to Lo operate it as all the energy is fur furnished furnished fished by the water flowing from a tank which is placed a few inches above the top of the highest tube tu While line at the University Professor Over Ocr strom has invented a number of other useful ore dressing devices device the best known of which is the concen coneen concentrating table In building his classifier he has been assisted by C T Bernstrom the mechanic at the University mill Pro Professor Professor fessor teaser is 15 now in Colorado with the senior mining engineers who Iho are aro making a months tour of the western country |
