Show State Tournament: Try To Figure It Out By DAVE WIGHAM With the state basketball tournaments just around the corner I thought that you readers would be interested in the pairings for the first round in each of the classifications. classifica-tions. THE 4A TOURNAMENT starts on Monday, March 6 and runs throughout the week with the final game being that following Saturday. All the games will be played at the University of Utah. The 3A tournament begins a week later on Monday, March 13 and runs for a week with their final matchup being Saturday, March 18. All these games will be at Weber State College in their new Dee Event Center. THE TEAMS are so mixed up and still fighting for spots at this point that it's impossible to put in the schools where they fit. That will be done in a couple of weeks. The 4A actually changed from their original format, the one printed in the association handbook, because it was discovered that some of the regions would have their first and second place finishers playing each other in the second game. That would make it better to go to the tournament as a third place team rather than second so the format was changed in September by the Board of Directors. Here is a look at the 4A schedule: Monday March I: 2: 30 p.m. Region Two No. 3 vs. Region One No. 3 4: lOo.m. Reeion One No. 1 vs. Region Three No. 5 6:30p.m. Region Three No. 2vs. Region Two No. 4 8: 10 p.m. Region Two No. 1 vs. Region One No. 5 Tuesday March 7 2: 30 p.m. Region Two No. 2 vs. Region Three No. 4 4: 10 p.m. Region One No. 2 vs. Region Two No. 5 6: 30 p.m. Region Three No. 3 vs. Region One No. 4 8: 10 p.m. Region Three No. 1 vs. Region One No. 6 or Region Two No. 6 THE 3A schedule has remained the same as printed in the handbook. These schools finish league play one week after the 4A schools and thus they begin their tournament one week later. Here is the 3A tournament Monday, March 1J 2:30 p.m. Region Six No. 1 vs. Region Five No. 5 or Region Four No. 6 4: 10 p.m. Region Four No. 2 vs. Region Five No. 4 6: 30 p.m. Region Five No. 1 vs. Region Six No. 5 8: 10 p.m. Region Four No. 3 vs. Region Six No. 3 Tuesday, March 14 2:30 p.m. Region Four No. 1 vs. Region Six No. 6 4:10 p.m. Region Five No. 3 vs. Region Six No. 4 6:30 p.m. Region Six No. 2 vs. Region Four No. 4 8:30 p.m. Region Five No. 2 vs. Region Four No. 5 If you can sit down and predict which teams fit in where then you should have my job. But then there are those people who don't think 1 know what I'm doing do-ing anyway. |
