hope of resurrection resurrection resurrection tion This conclusion was made practically certain by a secret caucus of twelve members of the senate yesterday esterday after afternoon afternoon afternoon noon The caucus was held hold in the tho may mayors mayors mayors ors office after the ad adjournment of the senate The sergeant guarded one door to the room fOmIn in which the caucus was caucus began those present were President Gardner Senators Marks M Seely Miller Kuch Koch Kuchler Kuchler ler Benner X Smith Bullen Builen Hyde Sevy Se John Y Smith and Badger Shortly after the meeting began Sen Senator Senator Senator ator Miller was called out by Senator Wilson Vilson and about half an hour before beCore its conclusion Senator Kuchler left Jelt After the meeting adjourned the sen senators senators senators who ho were at the meeting were They admitted that the Cannon bill and the prohibition question were the subject of discussion lon That final and definite action twelve who were at the caucus during nearly all of tho the time that the meeting lasted are opposed to the Cannon bill though it is understood that not all of them are agreed on the provisions of the substitute bill to be introduced The substitute known as the Cullen hotel bill drawn by b the federal bunch has few advocates At a similar caucus held a week ago by the senators ten members of the senate pledged themselves to vote against the Cannon bill This solid phalanx of ten has been unbroken Two others opposed to the Cannon bill have been added to the ten which in insures insures cores its death Included among the opponents of the Cannon bill bilt are the five members of the committee on manufactures and com corn commerce commerce merce of ot the senate to which this bill has been referred These are Senators Rudolph Kuchler chairman John Y Smith Herschel Bullen jr Carl A Badger and J 3 A Hyde Within a few days this committee will submit a re report report report port to the senate son ate recommending that the Cannon bill be killed And the re report rl report port will be adopted probably without debate Strict Regulation Provided As a substitute bill the measure to be agreed upon in caucus will be Intro dued probably by the tho committee on manufactures and commerce This bill billis billIs billis is being drawn by Senators Badger John Y Smith and Hyde all of whom are members of this committee The measure It is said provides for local j option the unit not yet decided upon Some of the senators favor county local option others would make the municipality the unit and s still till others Insist on local option by b precincts Strict regulation is provided by b the bill The number of ot saloons Is limited and there is some suggestion that brew saloons are to
