A FASHION designer writes: "I have read that more young women are-smoking are-smoking cigarettes than ever before. Is this because more women are now working?" Answerline: A major student of the cigarette habits of young women which was done for the American Cancer Society by Yankelovich, Skelly and White shows that it is housewives more than working women who are likely to be heavy cigarette smokers. It was found that among housewives who smoke, 66 percent are heavy smokers, whereas among working women who smoke, 53 percent are heavy smokers. Among the female cigarette smokers surveyed the majority, 61 percent, were housewives, unemployed or students.
