Show Face -S (3 caves ly DAVE WIGHAM Bountiful-Davis ?liup this Friday on the 1 1' field pits a winner from jf"eek and a loser, but let that mislead you. BRAVES took a 20-14 j ime victory from the ' lton team while the 1 i lost their opener in Sk overtime 10-7 to the Q i team. ijt like last week the J, squad will be smaller ,heir opponents, but as proved last week, size seem to bother them. r i problem for the Dart 4j.se will be the task of . 1 guessing the Braves' ;. Last week the Darts lltoKi the Layton running (Hljiwhen they needed to, Kl,"B Braves are known to I J'a lot more than Layton, Darts will have to deal nore with both aspects IJUj-jffense. Quarterback Ryan Iso showed a great ng arm for the Darts lJV"ek which makes the JM fense even more effec- JlfNTIFUL is always for their mixture of the " ss offense and with lavies at the helm this Braves and Coach 'IB Vaite mix these two A !ll. "w Lloyd of Davis had a ime against Layton s. g pass routes and g the ball, the Braves ve to keep an eye on iker. Another receiver Darts to watch is i 87, Troy Howard, who e target for the quar- BOUNTIFUL proved it could throw the long bomb when they wanted to as Chris Davies hooked up with Scott Pandleton for a 60-yard scoring scor-ing pass. Running-wise the Braves got good performances perfor-mances from senior fullback Bill Wernl: and junior halfback half-back John Luddington. In the overtime period it was a second effort run by Luddington Lud-dington that set up the winning win-ning tally. Bountiful did give up a kickoff runback for a touchdown touch-down and the Darts showed last week they have some top runners returning kicks. DEFENSIVELY the Darts seemed to send their linebackers up the middle a lot against Layton to try to offset their offense. Bountiful is known for their screen passes to spoil this strategy. Year after year the coaches Jay Cullimore and Paul Waite wage one of the best mental battles in high school ball. Each dips into their wealth of knowledge and experience to try to outwit the other. THE SQUADS both know what the other likes to do, nothing is new, the key is execution. The game is at Bountiful which has to be a plus for the Braves. Last year these Brave juniors only lost one game in the J.V. league, that was to Davis which gives the Darts the knowledge they can win, but also gives the Bountiful seniors an added incentive to win. Each year these two teams go head to head with the outcome out-come not known until the final moments; this year promises to be another tight game. |
