Show N.S. SCHOOL NEWS PAGE SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS B4 APRIL 6, 2012 North Summit Wax Museum MONIQUE OVARD Special to the News Students lined the halls and wound around the gym and the keeves presenting their reports as friends, parents and grandparents came to enjoy the North Summit 4th Grade Wax Museum! Students dressed up as people in time from George Washington to Tom Brady. There is always so much support shown to the students and to the school for this event. The students have a great opportunity to learn about these incredible people and the journey that has lead them to be so well known while learning the skills to present those facts in a way to pique the interest of others. The students in 4th grade do book reports each month as part of the curriculum. They are given different topics each month and learn different ways of giving their report either with visual aids, through an oral report, or just turning in a written report. The monthly reports lead up to their major report which is this 4th Grade Wax Museum. It is written and prepared after reading a book about a chosen person in time. Each student gets to choose a person, read a book about them and create a story board with details about that person that guests" at the museum can read about as they walk through the "museum". As a fundraiser for the school, "guests" place a coin of choice in the container on the student's desk to watch the student, who has even dressed up like the chosen person, present a short oral report that is either memorized, or for some, written out for reading. Caleb Birk, from the round spectacles and salt and pepper hair to the suede loafers with no socks, could have been a twin for his person Steven Spielberg. "My " morn's friend suggested to do this report about Mr. Spielberg. She recommended that Caleb do his report on Steven Spielberg, but Caleb found that "...his movies are (also) really interesting." Sisalee Richins had an "awesome looking wig" said one friend. Miss Richins represented Torn Brady at the Wax Museum. If she could ask Torn Brady one question she would want to know how many touchdowns he has scored. Daniel Boone was characterized by McKay Rees. McKay would like to know "...with all the hunting done by Daniel Boone how many different types of animals did he hunt?" Each of the students walked away learning something different, but they all mentioned that they were glad that they had chosen the person they represented because they learned a lot about them.
