The crime was one of the most deliberate and thorough ever committed in this section and everything against the man has been purely circumstantial, yet convicting. West slept until 7:3U this morn at 8:30 o'clock while the ing; death watchers were changing, West secured a small piece of iron concealed in his bed and jabbed himself in the neck. He waa rendered unconscious. Physicians were immediately called in but were unable to restore consciousness up to 2:30 p. m. when he was hanged. His condition had not greatly changed. He was strapped to a board and carried to the scaffold. At 2:33 the trap waa sprung and the rope broke. The murderer was in terrible distress and it took five men to hold him, though he waa manacled. At 2:40 the rope waa strung up again and this time the hangman waa ucoeaafuL At 2:48 West was pronounced dead.
